EZEKIEL - TEACHER'S NOTES
Here are teacher's notes prepared for an adult Bible class
studying the prophet Ezekiel and the book of the Old Testament
that bears his name.
As is my usual custom, I have consulted conservative commentaries
as I have prepared these notes. Here is a partial list with comments
as to their usability.
Be Reverent...Bowing Before Our Awesome God, Warren
Wiersbe.
[Dr. Wiersbe gives his usual good overview and comments. Historically
he sticks to the facts. Only when he gets to chapters 33-48 do
I wonder if he wants Ezekiel to be prophesying about the end
times too much?]
Ezekiel, John B. Taylor.
[Taylor does a good job explaining some of the subtilities of
the Hebrew without getting too technical. He also consults the
various translations and compares them for clarity.]
The Book of Ezekiel, Jim McGuiggan.
[This is my first time to use McGuiggan as a source, it will
not be the last. He is very conservative and somewhat
preachy (I mean this in a good way - as with Matthew Henry below).
He writes in a conversational style - you'll think you are sitting
at the kitchen table talking with him.]
Ezekiel - "Ye Shall Know I Am The Lord,"
Robert Harkrider.
[I use Brother Bob's workbooks whenever they are available. Each
class member had their own copy. I kept my notes to his outline
as closely as possible, but tried not to duplicate his text.
This way the class members were not just hearing me read the
workbook, but were able to add my notes to Harkrider's.]
PowerBible CD - (http://www.powerbible.com/) Contains 12 Bible
translations and 17 commentaries + much much more...for only
$19.00! Among the commentaries on the CD that were extremely
helpful in preparing these notes were:
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary and
Adam Clarke's Bible Commentary.
I must thank my students at the Beverly Shores church for
their encouragement in the preparation and presentation of these
notes. Many of them are the same ones that attended the Isaiah
class a few years back and still came back anyway!
